About the 2024/25 Street Tree Planting Program [Stage 2]

Our annual street planting program aims to ensure a tree-lined, covered and cool streetscape that, once mature, will create a consistent, attractive avenue of trees of a similar size, shape and look. We are planting trees in approximately 158 streets across our City from 1 April to 30 June 2025 to help meet our target of 1,200 trees planted in this period. These new trees will contribute to our Tree Canopy Improvement Strategy which will deliver 25% tree canopy cover across the City.

Your street has been included in the current Program for tree planting.

Tree species for planting is finalised

We asked selected streets in the program to vote on their preferred tree species for planting from 2 tree species options last year, in November 2024. The tree species for planting in streets invited to vote have now been confirmed.

Skip to tabs titled 'Step 1' and Step 2' below to see what species was preferred and confirmed for planting in your street, and to find out more details about that species.

Planting details

Planting notification and location plans

In late January/early February, all residents and property owners in the 158 streets selected for tree planting will be directly notified by letterbox about the upcoming planting and species selected for your street. This notification will share the website where you can view the tree removal and planting locations in your street (and others). These planting plans can be accessed now on our Street Planting Program webpage on the Council website.

When will planting start?

Planting preparation will start in March, with planting starting in April through to end-June as we work through the tree planting in the 158 selected streets.

Planting request or feedback

Opportunity to comment before March

All residents will have the opportunity to share any concerns about the planting before March (eg no later than end-February 2025). Comments we might be able to consider include specific planting locations in the verge, advice about private infrastructure (eg artificial turf and irrigation to back of kerb and gutter), or extenuating personal or property circumstances we may not be aware of.

Unsupported requests for 'No Tree' are not considered, and leaf fall, debris, tree mess or concerns about private property damage are not reasons we would opt to not plant. You can find out more information under the FAQs section on the Street Planting Program webpage.

Feedback can be submitted to the contact details on this page and provided in the notification flyer you will receive in the coming weeks.

STEP 1: Species selections

Resident tree species selection process

Our qualified technical staff are responsible for determining the tree species for planting in each street environment. In most cases, we will continue to plant the dominant or most suitable tree type already established in the street.

Where a selected street has few or no trees, or most existing trees will be removed for replacement because of poor health, performance or suitability, that street is invited to vote on one of two tree options for planting. Resident input into the tree type planted will help to determine the new dominant tree type for your street moving forward. Our qualified staff have selected the tree species options for your street based on several factors within your street environment, such as (but not limited to) specific growing conditions, biodiversity and infrastructure.

Selected streets' residents and property owners for the 2024/25 (Stage 2) tree planting program were invited to submit a vote on the tree species preference for their street in November 2024. The results of voting for the selected streets are available to view below.

  • Check the table below to find your street.
  • Move on to Step 2 to review details about the species selected for planting in your street by resident preference.

Can’t find your street?

Check for streets that may be adjacent to your property (eg side-streets or rear-streets) as we may be planting on streets along the side or back of your property.

STEP 2: Species information

Find your street's two tree options below, and follow the link to access more information about the species from the Botanic Gardens of South Australia Plant Selector and Fleming's websites (as at October 2024).

The tree species are sorted alphabetically from A to Z.

The images provided via these sites are for illustrative purposes only and generally show the tree species at an established or mature age. They do not represent the actual tree size or attributes at the time that we will plant.
