Community Engagement Outcomes - Stage 1

9 September 2021

We consulted with residents in Stanley Street in March 2021, seeking feedback on traffic improvements to Stanley Street. A number of residents had raised concerns about traffic safety in Stanley Street with us, particularly that drivers are not obeying the 40km/hr speed limit; potential conflict at the S-bend due to parking and lack of visibility and many people are doing illegal U-turns at the Woodville Road/Stanley Street intersection causing safety concerns.

Through our investigations it was identified that that there are some traffic calming measures that could be incorporated into the road rehabilitation to alleviate some of these issues, including:

  • Concrete centre median on Stanley Street at Woodville Road to physically prevent illegal U-turns.
  • Installation of pavement bars and parking controls at the S-bend to delineate travel lanes and increase visibility.
  • Change of priority at the intersections of Stanley Street/Hughes Street North and Stanley Street/Park Street North to require vehicles in Stanley Street to slow at regular intervals to give way to intersecting traffic.

We engaged with stakeholders within the Woodville area, adjacent or close by to Stanley Street seeking comments on the proposed treatments.

The Community Engagement Report provides the outcomes from this stage of consultation.
