The playground at St Andrews Way Reserve is due for renewal as part of the 2020/21 Financial Year Asset Renewal program and Council has identified the opportunity to relocate this playground equipment from St Andrews Way Reserve to Birkdale Reserve, which is also located on St Andrews Way, approximately 200 metres further north.
The primary reasons for this proposal are that Birkdale Reserve is approximately 200m2 larger than St Andrews Way Reserve, and potentially offers better access for the broader community.
Community consultation on this proposal was undertaken in April 2019 and the outcomes of the consultation were presented to the Asset Management Committee on 17 June 2019. In summary, the Committee and Council endorsed the following:
- That $96k for the renewal of the playground at St Andrews Way Reserve be transferred to Birkdale Reserve, for completion in 2020/21.
- An additional budget of $200k for the upgrade of Birkdale Reserve and landscaping at St Andrews Way Reserve, be considered as part of Council’s 2020/21 budget preparations.
- The community further consulted in relation to the concept design for Birkdale Reserve.
- The existing playground at St Andrews Way Reserve be retained.
