Consultation Summary

Stage 2: Draft Playground Design

We engaged with the community from Monday, 6 March 2023 to Monday, 27 March 2023 on stage 2 of the Montgomery Reserve Playground Proposal: Draft Design.

We received 19 unique responses to the feedback form and 3 email submissions during the period of the engagement. Support for the playground design from feedback form respondents was high, with 90% (17) indicating that they liked the draft design. The remaining 10% (2) participants indicated that they did not like the design (1) or did not provide a response (1). No one responded that they didn’t mind about the design either way.

Considerations in the Final Design

Minor changes proposed to the draft plan following community feedback.

  • Seating installed will have a back rest.
  • That 'quiet' or unobtrusive music play features are investigated to accommodate minimal concerns about noise and inappropriate use.
  • Nature play elements such as logs and rocks will be engineered to ensure they are safe for appropriate use, with no rough or sharp edges.
  • We have identified 2, fairly immature trees that may need to be moved to accommodate the play space however we can confirm that we intend to remove and replant these trees, elsewhere on the reserve if appropriate. Native plants will also be incorporated into the surrounding landscaping.
  • Open space in the reserve will remain available to encourage the ongoing recreation that you enjoy on the reserve, such as ball sports, picnics, and fitness activity.

While we acknowledge there were 3 requests for each a flying fox and a slide (the most popular items requested not in the plan), they have not been included due to the available space, cost, and proximity of these features in other nearby playgrounds. A flying fox, in particular, was not included based on stage 1 feedback about how the community enjoys the serene, natural qualities of this reserve. A slide might have been considered, but would have had to replace, for example, the swings or trampolines, which were ranked very highly.
