A report is now ready to be considered by Council to decide if the playground proposal for Montgomery Reserve will proceed. This report will include the results of community engagement undertaken in September and Ootober last year (2022). The Asset Management Committee will consider the report at its first meeting of the year, on
20 February 2023. This decision will then be referred to full Council for endorsement at its meeting of 27 February 2023.

Community Engagement

The purpose of undertaking community engagement on the Montgomery Reserve playground proposal was to inform the community about the project and to understand if the community supported this idea, how they used the space, and potential playground features they might like to see.

Majority of participants were in support of a playground, were excited by the proposal, and had suggestions for features that would make this play space unique from others in the area. Those who did not support the proposal felt there were enough playgrounds nearby, valued the peaceful, natural habitat, enjoy the open space and playing ball games, shared other ideas for the space, or felt a structure here may increase negative behaviour or may compound traffic and parking congestion in the street during peak school hours.
