Playground Proposal Supported and Design Approved

At its meeting of 24 April, Council endorsed the decision of the Asset Management Committee (17 April 2023, Item 4.26) "That the final concept design for the proposed new playground at Montgomery Reserve be endorsed and funding for construction of the new playground be considered in Council's 2023/24 budget preparations."

What does this mean?

If the project is successful in receiving funding in Council's 2023/24 Annual Business Plan and Budget, then the final, playground design - as endorsed by Council and informed by your feedback - will be constructed on Montgomery Reserve. Construction will likely commence late 2023 or early 2024 and be completed no later than end-June 2024.

You are still able to express your support or objection to this project in the 2023/24 Annual Business Plan and Budget consultation process (open now), as the project will not be confirmed until budget approval is obtained.

When will I know for sure if the playground is going ahead?

We will know if the project will go ahead sometime in June, when the 2023/24 Annual Business Plan and Budget has been adopted by Council. When we can confirm this, we will share an update on the Your Say New Playground Proposal for Montgomery Reserve project page.

Will I receive notice of the final design and construction details?

If you received the initial consultation material on the playground proposal via post then yes, you will. We would normally send a copy of the design and construction details to you soon after approval. This project is unique in that we still have to obtain funding approval for the project. This year, we wanted to understand if you supported the project and what you might like included.

We will delay final notification to the surrounding residents and property owners of Montgomery Reserve until a decision is made on funding approval. If approved, we will contact properties within approximately 350-400m of the reserve, by post, to share the final playground concept plan and expected construction details.
