Future of Football Park has been decided

12 June 2024

Football Park

On Tuesday 11 June 2024, Council voted 6-5 to grant the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) a non-exclusive licence to Football Park, West Lakes.

This means:

  • A non‐exclusive licence has been granted to the SANFL for 10+10+10+10+2 years;
  • The proposed Community Land Management Plan has been adopted; and
  • Council notes that any request to a change to the hours of use as contained within the SANFL licence under its term, shall be subject to a further decision of Council and not delegates of Council.

This decision follows extensive consultation with our community. The first round of consultation was held in November 2023. Following a review of the outcomes, feedback, and other workshops, Council resolved to undertake a second round of community consultation in May 2024, on a revised proposal, which included changes to times of usage.

Next steps:

  • City of Charles Sturt will work with all parties to immediately commence to vest the oval to Council;
  • Grant the non-exclusive license to the SANFL; and
  • Following the handover of Central Park (within the WEST Development), a Community Engagement Approach will be prepared in order to seek community feedback on the design and use of Central Park.

See the 11 June, 2024 Council Agenda.
