South Australians invited to shape the future of Greater Adelaide

The State Planning Commission has released the Government’s draft Greater Adelaide Regional Plan (the Plan) for consultation between Monday 23 September until 5.00pm Monday 4 November 2024 (6 weeks).

The Plan aims to provide a vision and comprehensive strategy for the sustainable development of Greater Adelaide over the next 30-years.

The Plan will identify where an extra 315,000 homes can be located and where jobs will be created as the state’s population expands to provide certainty to community, councils and the development sector on the long-term growth of Greater Adelaide in response to the increasing demand for housing.

The State Planning Commission has launched public consultation on the Greater Regional Adelaide Plan (the Plan), offering South Australians the opportunity to help shape the long-term planning vision for urban, land and housing development across the state.

This comprehensive strategy is designed to guide the region’s growth and sustainable development over the next 15 to 30 years. It aims to ensure a consistent supply of affordable land and diverse housing options while offering clear direction to the community, councils and developers on Greater Adelaide’s long-term growth.

In addition, the Plan focuses on preserving green spaces and tree canopies, modernising essential services and infrastructure, recognising neighbourhood character, and prioritising environmental sustainability.

Public consultation will be open for six weeks, during which community can share their views on key priorities, including:

  • the location of new housing and employment
  • how transport networks will service these area
  • the essential infrastructure needs to support growth
  • identifying areas that could benefit from renewal
  • protecting specific areas from future development

A series of online community briefing sessions and workshops will be held for people to learn and discuss proposed options to meet the needs of our growing population.

The consultation period will close at 5:00 pm on Monday 4 November 2024.
