Background Information
Council has received a request from the Returned Services League (Henley & Grange sub-branch), Incorporated to grant a new term of lease of 15 years for the Community Land.
This asset is located on Community land and in accordance with the Local Government Act 1999 public consultation is required when Community Land is aliented by Lease or Licence for a period of more than 5 (five) Years.
The Returned Services League (Henley & Grange sub-branch) Incorporated, funded and constructed the RSL clubrooms on Council land at the rear of the (then) Soldier's Memorial and Town Hall more than 60 years ago with permission from the (then) Henley and Grange Council. They have provided support to servicemen and women, thier families and the community from the clubrooms continuously since.
The existing lease agreement has recently expired, with the premises being occupied by the
Returned Services League under 'holding over' provisions within the previous lease. Click here to view a map of the area to be leased or view in the document library.
Community Consultation
A report was presented to the Asset Management Committee on Monday 17 February, 2020 detailing the proposed extension of lease and subsequent community consultation. A copy of the report is available here.
The Henley & Grange RSL have a proud history in the community. They have had a presence at this site for decades and maintain full equity in the constructed asset. The group have understandably expressed a desire to stay in the current premises for a 15 year term.
