Final Climate Change Response Plan

21 November 2024

Thank you to everyone who shared feedback on our draft Climate Change Response Plan in May and June 2024. We had 105 survey responses from the community about the draft Plan.

The results showed that 37% of participants rated the Plan as 4 or 5 stars (high support), while 55% rated it as 1 or 2 stars (low support) and 8% rated the Plan at 3 stars (a good start but needs more work).

Overall, the summary of the feedback reflected a community divided on the issue of climate change. Some supported and valued the Plan as it was, while others offered constructive feedback about environmental measures and suggested improved infrastructure and urban planning. Equally, others shared criticism, significant scepticism about the reality of climate change and causes, and financial concerns.

Since consultation closed, we have further refined and clarified the Plan based on your feedback. We have:

  • Included additional explanation about the science behind climate change in response to the concerns raised, and to demonstrate the evidence-base behind the decisions we were making and the strategic direction of the Plan.
  • Added additional spatial mapping to show the importance of managing climate risks and demonstrate a wholistic approach to our Plan.
  • Placed greater focus on actions within the control of Council, as suggested in the consultation responses.
