Previous Consultation

30 May 2019

Between August and October 2018, we asked the community, via a survey and online mapping tool, how we could improve the Bikedirect network in the City of Charles Sturt, including improving safety, access, convenience and comfort for people riding bikes.

The cycling network is of major importance to the City of Charles Sturt and we have a target to increase the percentage of cycling trips to 6% by 2031 (Transport Plan 2016-2031). We want to ensure that the cycling network is direct, safe, attractive, comfortable and convenient, with connections to and from local destinations.

The Bikedirect network has been developed and mapped by the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure and includes recommended cycling routes consisting of main roads, bike lanes, local streets and off-road paths in the greater Adelaide region. The City of Charles Sturt has installed on-road bicycle logos and blue advisory cycle signs on every Council-owned road along the Bikedirect network.
