The City of Charles Sturt provides services to its community, including through its building assets. Building assets may have been acquired through building construction, contracts or as a contribution of new public infrastructure from developers. The organisation's goal in managing building assets is to meet a defined level of service in the most cost-effective manner for present and future residents and visitors. For many years our city has grown both in size and demand and, considering the State’s 30-year plan for growth, this is expected to continue. With ageing building assets, the cost of ongoing intervention (eg maintenance/renewal/upgrade) to ensure our buildings are functional and continue to provide the service intended is an ongoing organisational challenge.
The Council Buildings AMP is an important tool to ensure we are balancing investment in both providing building assets to support demand and maintaining existing assets for longevity and ongoing service provision. This AMP contributes to council achieving the appropriate balance of social, cultural, environmental and economic services - the key to ongoing sustainability.
While building assets are largely physical, the asset planning for our buildings is focussed on our community who represent the current and future users of the assets.
